People have come together throughout the country to remember two years since the Hamas-conducted assault on October 7th, 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident saw in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured away to Gaza as captives. It was the single deadliest day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel reacted by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are regarded as accurate by the UN and other world agencies.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the prime minister remarked on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the release of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will no longer create a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled state commemorations until 16 October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but events still occurred around the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the families of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was respected throughout the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams met in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a second day of mediated discussions to review the provisions of the agreement.

A prominent Palestinian official involved in the negotiations indicated that an late session of mediated discussions started at evening in Egypt.

The official said the day's discussions finished without concrete outcomes, because of disagreements over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not recommence fighting after the first phase of the deal.

He commented that the negotiations are "difficult and have still not deliver any real breakthrough," but noted that facilitators are making efforts to narrow the differences between the both parties.

Key Points in Discussions

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The exchange of the captives still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid provision
  • After-conflict management of the area

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square previously, young Hagar - whose sibling lived through the attack on the outdoor event, where 378 people were killed and dozens more were captured by Hamas fighters - told: "Nowhere feels like home now and until all the hostages come back no one will feel safe."

"Once we see all home returned, we can breathe again. Then we can commence heal," she added.

Near the leader's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to express their support for the relatives of the abducted. Israel says 48 continue in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be surviving.

Activist one woman stated: "We need do every compromise necessary for the hostages to return. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be secure."

Surveys now consistently show that around 70% of Israeli citizens want the hostilities to conclude in return for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Circumstances

At the area of the music event, those paying respects assembled to honor the dead.

From that location, the noise of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses said the severe Israeli shelling continued.

In Gaza City, attacks were noted in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side district, area and zone districts and in the east side neighbourhood of the community, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the dusk arrives, the fear appears with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack last year, described.

"We are afraid of the air strikes. All the night we are sleeping together, holding each other, notably my smallest child who places his head on me all night."

"Continuously we monitor the updates to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the conflict will come back to us."

Health Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area reported it had accepted the remains of six people by the afternoon, including three killed in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of the city said additional dead people had been delivered. A person was killed by Israeli troops while attempting to get aid to the southern area, health workers said.
