Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
