Miami put up eighty-six opening half points against the Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat earned a crushing 146-114 win over the Grizzlies in their first NBA match after player Rozier was arrested for suspected illegal sports betting.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Billups was additionally arrested as part of a sweeping federal investigation into illegal gambling. The two individuals contest the allegations.

But, the Heat were not distracted as they put up eighty-six first-half scores to lead Memphis by thirty-nine at halftime, the biggest halftime lead in the franchise's 37 year history.

Adebayo led the way with twenty-four points and later said Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We stand behind him. Complete backing," Bam stated. "We are with him all the way. That's our brother ultimately."

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra commented: "Terry is a person who is important to everyone. He's had a beneficial influence on our locker room.

"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he faces this."

Portland additionally won their initial match after the arrests, with Brazil-born Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Billups' non-attendance and leading the squad to a decisive 139-119 victory against the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Chauncey and how he coached," Splitter said. "Our thoughts are with him and his family but we have a job to do."

League Commissioner Silver 'Upset' by Arrests

Addressing the arrests for the initial occasion, league head Adam Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the events of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the league and supporters than the fairness of the game," he told a broadcaster. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."

Silver further said an NBA investigation into Rozier's conduct in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he participated for the Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the betting companies," he added.

"We investigated that situation and were open about it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, found no evidence.

"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can take various actions that the NBA can't do.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating from that point. Naturally, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.

"And two and a half years after, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in justice to Terry.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance in this case between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
