🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Niche Movement Mechanics Become Widely Accessible This Season Respawn Entertainment have an exciting surprise prepared for Apex Legends gamers, arriving just in time for festive season. Fans of this game's super-slick movement can rejoice to learn that a new movement mechanic will be introduced when the Amped season launches on November 4th. Unveiling Mantle Boosting Named "Momentum Boosting" by the developers, this feature gives players a surge of propulsion when scaling ledges and walls. According to lead battle royale designer Eric Canavese, this technique has unofficially been a feature of the game for some time, usually referred to as "mantle jumping." But it's challenging for the average player, and typically employed by pro gamers in competitive play or tournaments. In this update, Respawn simplifies the process for everyone to execute these advanced movement boosts. "This technique existed in Apex for a while, but the movement isn't easy to perform and gamers would never know it [is in the game] without external guides," Canavese states. "We're adding a Mantle Boost indicator so players can easily see when and how to trigger the high-octane traversal skill, making accessible the mechanic and adding new ways to compete for a much wider base." Why Make It Accessible Why make a previously obscure technique available to all players? Principal designer the development lead says developers aims for players to feel powerful — including ones who are inexperienced. "Our community performs advanced techniques like super-gliding and tap-strafes, and we examined at our competition, observed what the community execute, and we said, 'What if we provide some of this power to more players?'" the designer explains. "Because currently, some of these techniques are somewhat awkward to use — it requires to remap your keybinds and execute within one-frame windows. We proposed, 'How about we make a polished implementation?'" Season 27 Movement Focus Mobility is largely the name of the game in this season, with Legends the gravity mage, the defensive specialist, and the aerial combatant receiving buffs to help keep them in motion. The cooldown period on her tactical ability is shorter, and the Gravity Lift will boost players upward faster than it used to. Her defensive walls now include a roof and capability to provide speed boosts to allies in range. However the spotlight is on aerial this Legend receiving the most attention now, with various adjustments applied to make her more potent, quicker, and deadlier. "I think there's quite a consensus that her moment is here," says character developer Ian Holstead. "Certainly she was dominant previously, but with the introduction of other characters, mobility perks, and Evac Towers, it seemed like she's not very relevant in current Apex. It was a really great opportunity for us to reexamine multiple elements [of her kit] and sort of restore her to her glory days." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To reclaim Valkyrie's relevance in the game's meta, Holstead says Respawn assessed all her skills and implemented some powerful changes. Her jetpack received improvements, increasing her speed while airborne, and this equipment now recharge three times faster, enabling the player to spend more time aloft. Now she won't take damage from her own Missile Swarm, which has also been upgraded to tag opponents who are hit from it. Her squad redeploy ability — which lifts teammates into the air for redeployment or escape — now takes much less time to activate. Additionally, she gains recently added Legend Upgrades that users can choose to reduce fuel consumption, widen the area of her Missile Swarm, or further speed up her ultimate activation. "Her jet pack fulfills that jet-fighter fantasy," Holstead comments. Olympus Improvements Even the game's lone airborne map, this location, is getting a movement-friendly facelift, with major changes that expands choke points and makes securing elevated positions more manageable. The developers state the game this update is all about giving players the tools they need to compete in the competition. "Essentially, we were looking at the game's core identity as a movement shooter," explains principal designer the lead. Apex Legends the Amped season launches November 4th at the specified times.
