The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
